| Recording with prerecorded trax is probably the most economical
approach without surrendering any quality. Eagles Nest offers over 1,000 prerecorded
accompaniment tracks to choose from. A word of Caution!
Prerecorded tracks are very easy to obtain in any bookstore. Here's the hitch.
Most of them cannot be used for recording, especially if it is a major artist sound
track. They are licensed only for live performance use. Companies like Eagles
Nest create "sound-alikes" of major artist releases. Eagles Nest also has
many unique arrangements of those songs ...plus scores of unpublished originals!!
Advantages of Recording with Prerecorded
Trax
There are a number of advantages to recording with prerecorded trax - advantages that
don't first meet the eye.
- Predictability - You know exactly
what you are paying for because you are leasing a track you can preview before you lay
your money down.
- Schedule - If time is critical,
producing 'custom' tracks may not be an option. In rare situations a track can be
done in a week, at other times the production schedule might require a month or more.
Prerecorded tracks are ready to record yesterday.
- Cost - The most obvious
advantage. Average cost per track is around $150, compared with custom-produced tracks
which cost 3 to 12 times that amount. With prerecorded tracks, production costs are shared
with other users.
Disadvantages of Recording with Prerecorded
Trax
- Inflexibility - Prerecorded trax
require the singer to be more flexible with respect to tempo, interpretation, range, etc.
- Uniqueness - With prerecorded
tracks, there is the chance that your sound track may have been heard at First Baptist
just last week. On the other hand, this liability is even of greater concern to a
major artist whose tracks (for performance purposes) are in every Christian bookstore in
town.
- Songs are 'dated' - Generally
songs with prerecorded trax have been around awhile. Eagles Nest has solved that
problem...
'Unpublished Originals'
Everyone would like their project to sound as fresh and original as a major artist
project. The Eagles Nest catalog contains over 125 songs of
which, most likely, no one in your audience will ever recognize. They are
unpublished originals, available only from Eagles Nest . . . and they cost no more to
lease.
How to Select Prerecorded Trax
Eagles Nest has the most streamlined review method in the industry using 3 tools, all
of which you can use in the comfort of your home or car!
- Catalog
- Listing over 1,000 titles, the catalog gives you the range(s) of each track, it lists
the style and also tells you if the song is "public domain." (This means you
only pay for the lease of the track. No publisher or writer is entitled to any royalties.)
- Listening Library - The
Eagles Nest (Clarion) Listening Library consists of several dozen cassettes. Each
Preview cassette contains 10 to 20 songs; each song is played in its entirety along with a
guide voice to help you get totally familiar with the song. The most recent releases
have the songs grouped so that all songs on a cassette are similar in style.
- Lyrics Collection- This
collection contains the printed lyrics for every song in the Listening Library. The
two tools run perfectly parallel; for each cassette there is a page of lyrics in the
Lyrics Collection.
Just a Hint . . . Recording with 'custom' vs. 'prerecorded' tracks is not an either-or
proposition. In fact, the majority of Eagles Nest artists tend to combine 'custom'
with 'prerecorded' tracks, on the same project. |
